Cape Buffalo (Syncerus caffer)

It is up to 1.7 meters high, 2.8 meters long. On average, an adult male stands about 1.5 m high at the shoulder and weighs 600–750 kg, while a female is 10–15 cm shorter and weighs between 400 and 550 kg. Bulls at ten years of age or older can reach or exceed 900 kg. This is the single most sought after animal because of the danger involved when hunting it. The buffalo has been known to charge unprovoked and can be one of the most dangerous animals when wounded. It is strongly suggested that you use the largest calibre rifle you feel comfortable with (starting with 375) when booking a buffalo hunt. Range could be up to 100 yards depending on the terrain where the hunt takes place. As this is part of the big 5, by law a minimum of 375 can only be used.
